I am new to Dixon Montessori Charter School this 2019-2020 school year. I was born in Sacramento and grew up in the area.
I have a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a minor in Child Development from Chico State. I have an M.S. in Science Education from Montana State Univeristy, Bozeman. I have both a multiple subject teaching credential and a foundation level science teaching credential.
Maria Montessori's ideas were stressed throughout my educational experience. I believe that learning needs to be centered around the learner. It should be practical and as connected to real life as possible. Students learn best when they are active participants with control over their own learning. Teachers guide students in developing skills and creating their own understanding.
One thing many people find interesting about me is that I lived in a yurt in the Gobi Desert for two years. I was a Teacher Trainer for Peace Corps Mongolia. After completing my Peace Corps service, I taught at international schools in Mongolia for a couple of years. The past five years I taught in Davis, where I live with my wife and son.
We love to spend time outdoors, especially in the water. Please me know if you have a favorite place to hike, camp, swim, or kayak that you would like to recommend.
